The Effect of Computerized Cognitive Rehabilitation on Cognitive Function, Activities of Daily Living and Self-Efficacy in Brain Injury Patients

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of computerized cognitive rehabilitation on cognitive function, activities of daily living and self-efficacy in brain injury patients.

Methods: This study was conducted on 35 brain injury patients with cognitive impairment hospitalized in Seoul A Medical Center from March to August, 2014. Subjects were randomly selected and were divided into experimental group applied for computerized cognitive rehabilitation and control group didn¡¯t apply that. The intervention were applied 5 times a week for 30 minutes during 3 weeks. Seoul Verbal Learning Test, Digit Span Test, Rey Complex Figure Test, Modified Barthel Index, The Self-Efficacy Scale were used to evaluate the cognitive function, activities of daily living and self-efficacy.

Result: Experimental group improved all items, and there were most significant effect. But control group improved items except for digit span test, and the degree of improvement was greater inexperimental group than control group.

Conclusion: It was found that computerized cognitive rehabilitation is effective treatment and closely related to cognitive function, activities of daily living as well as self-efficacy that psychological part in brain injury patients. Therefore, improvement of cognitive function through computerized cognitive rehabilitation will have a positive impact on the comprehensive rehabilitation.
